What is Namaste Betty?

In the summer of 2015 one of our own yoga instructors, Betty Kalister, was tragically taken from us too soon in a plane crash along with her husband Rick and youngest daughter Nicole. Many in our Real Hot Yoga community wanted to be there for her memorial but could not. To be there in spirit we encouraged Betty's friends, and clients to stop, take a moment, do a yoga pose and use #namastbetty. The word Namaste translates as "the light in me sees and honors the light in you." While she was on this earth and after, Betty's light is still very much visible to those who knew and loved her.

In August of 2015 the yoga community rallied to create an event to honor Betty named it Namaste Betty. The event was not only to remember Betty but to help bring her vision to fruition.

What was Betty's Vision?

Betty always believed that Knoxville was a stronger yoga community than many believed and she dreamt of having the kind of large outdoor yoga events, attended by hundreds (perhaps even thousands) that larger cities have held. In 2014 Betty created an event in World's Fair Park. It was the largest of its kind in Knoxville with over 200 participants. In 2015, to keep her vision alive, all of the yoga studios in Knoxville came together to create an event that would not only honor Betty, but make her proud! The 2015 event was also held in World's Fair Park with nearly 500 participants.
